Participant: Khalid
Participant: Mr. Hedley
Topic: Water Shortage in Yemen
I opened the meeting, welcomed everybody and explained the water shortage problem in Yemen and invited all participants to put on their solutions.
We already had some solutions in the agenda as follows:
- Foreign Aid.
- Water Desalination .
- Building Dams.
- Cloud Seeding.
Khalid started with the first solution which was foreign aid, and how other countries can start helping Yemen in short and long terms.
Ahmed talked about building an infrastructure of dams to utilize rain water.
I talked about cloud seeding and its potential to help saving water in dams’ areas.
Saood talked about water desalination as a part of the long term solution for the water shortage problem in Yemen
I suggested that an awareness campaign to conserve water should be held to educate the public and make them aware of the problem and the solutions.
Other solutions also came out throughout the discussion like education and its impact on the situation in Yemen, and agriculture and Yemen’s fertile soil potential
Recommendations:
- Hold an awareness campaign to start conserving water.
- Emergency drinking water supplies should be provided from foreign countries.
- Education should take place immediately in order to raise the living standards and handle upcoming infrastructure projects.
- Start planning the infrastructure projects like water dams, desalination plants, pipes network and underground water pumps for the long term.
- Pay farmers to get rid of Qat and start planting useful corps.
The meeting was not well controlled by me and Mr. Hedley helped me control the meeting. We were not prepared enough as some ideas like education and its impact slipped our minds. All in all we gained some experience from this meeting and we should learn from our mistakes.
I closed the meeting at 15:30.
